![]() Giant Redwood - May 2005 |
This surprising find is in a small playing field which was surrounded by an old wall and iron gates. Not a particularly gigantic example but still a large tree for such a small park. Interestingly, the trunk splits into two about half way up, possibly as a result of damage by lightning or severe storm perhaps some forty or fifty years ago. The park is a marvellous haven in the midst of a busy town, a great place to sit and eat your sandwiches on a sunny day. |
In March 2024 Elliot wrote with the sad news that this tree has been felled. He wasn't sure when this was done "however looking at the google street view there are logs on the ground in 2017." Such a shame as it was a superb tree. I will leave this page here for historical reference. |
