Gunnersbury - Gunnersbury Park (London) |
George found this Giant Redwood (Sequoiadendron giganteum) in Gunnersby Park. He wrote; "A well bodied giant redwood sits almost exactly in the middle of the park. It appears to have lost its top at some point, perhaps recently. I couldn't find any information about this, I might send a cheeky email to the park team to see if they know anything about it. When researching online about Gunnersbury, I found reference to a Coastal Redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) in the grounds, but I am yet to find this. My feeling is that it is either more difficult to spot, or perhaps an error on the website (the Giant Redwood possibly being mistakenly noted as a coastal by somebody not too familiar with the distinctions). Either way - Gunnersbury Park is my site for weekend walks with my whippet, so I will keep on searching to see if there is a Coastal hidden away somewhere!" Thanks George, good luck with your Coastal Redwood hunt, but I have a feeling you could be right about the Giant being mistaken for a Coastal. |
