| Thanks to Don for this set of photographs of "ten Redwoods in Grimsdyke Open space in Harrow Weald. Here is a link to the nearby Grim's Dyke Hotel website. The girth of one of trees just near the driveway of the hotel on the right is about 8 metres which surely would make it older than 150 years indicated in local history?" Eight metres girth (measured by Don in 2021) is certainly very impressive. The earliest that these trees were planted in the U.K. was around the 1850's, so 150-170 years seems about right. Given the right conditions they can grow really fast! |
